He says his Maxwell education, particularly in political science and policy studies, provided a foundation in the multifaceted problem solving involved in his work. “Maxwell taught me how to widen my policy and regulatory aperture,” he says, “because that’s what creates success when certifying autonomous technologies in and outside aviation.”

Amid the rapid rise of artificial intelligence and autonomous systems, Maxwell scholars are gathering critical data, designing policy and informing future leaders.

The Defense Comptroller Program at Syracuse University educates and trains the Department of Defense’s financial managers at the Martin J. Whitman School of Management where students receive an MBA, and at the Maxwell School where students earn an E.M.P.A.

Eleven Executive Education students, fellows or scholars presented at Peer to Peer forums during this academic year. The sessions included a 15- to 20-minute presentation followed by a robust question-and-answer session. Presenters came from across Maxwell’s Executive Education programs, including the Humphrey Fellows cohort.

The University Professor and Phanstiel Chair in Leadership was recognized for his public service roles, including four presidential appointments. 

Audie Klotz, professor of political science, is the 2023 recipient of the William Wasserstrom Prize for Teaching of Graduate Students. The prize is awarded to a faculty member who exemplifies the qualities of William Wasserstrom, a noted professor of English at Syracuse, who died in 1985.

In recognition of exceptional scholarship and innovative academic and professional activities, Madonna Harrington Meyer has been reappointed to a four-year term as University Professors, one of the highest honors the University bestows on faculty members. 

Christopher DeCorse, professor and chair of anthropology, has been recognized for exemplary stature in his academic field by being named Distinguished Professor, one of the highest honors awarded faculty at Syracuse University.

Bernard Rostker G’66, G’70 was one of four alumni honored at the Washington, D.C., event emceed by CNN anchor Boris Sanchez '09.

The award recognizes excellence in teaching and contributions to the IR program during the 2022-2023 academic year.
